Welcome to Golden J Farms

Golden J Farms didn’t just pop up overnight. It was built over time — season after season — by Ray and Ravenelle Johnson, with hard work, grit, and a strong belief in doing things the right way. What started as a row crop and commercial cattle operation quickly became more than just a way to make a living. It became the family’s way of life.

Steve and Stuart grew up working alongside their parents — learning to drive tractors before they were old enough to drive a truck and showing cattle before they could shave. 4-H and FFA were part of how they were raised, not just something to do after school.

In 1978, the Johnsons bought their first Angus female — a small decision that turned out to be a big one. That cow sparked a passion that’s carried through the family for generations.

The youngest son, Mark, took a special liking to the Angus side of things. He loved everything about it — working cattle, getting ready for shows, and chasing the next banner. His enthusiasm helped push the family operation even further.

The grandsons — David, Heath, and Kirk — picked up right where the older generation left off. They didn’t just show cattle; they competed in all parts of the National Junior Angus program — from Team Sales to Public Speaking, Poster, Cook-Off, Showmanship, and more. Along the way, they earned their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, representing the family and the farm with pride.

In 2000, Heath was elected to the National Junior Angus Board — a proud moment for the Johnsons and a reflection of how much they’ve given back to the Angus breed over the years.

At the heart of it all is the Angus cow. She’s the kind we’ve always believed in — sound, maternal, and built to perform. That’s the kind we’ve always aimed to raise — cows that last, raise good calves, and hold their own in the pasture or the show ring.

In 2023 Simmental was added to the mix — not to change who we are, but to build on what we already believe in. Angus and Simmental make a solid cross that brings power, look, and longevity — the kind of cattle that work for today’s market.

Golden J Farms has always been about doing the work, sticking to what matters, and raising good cattle — the kind we’d be proud to put our name on.

We are very passionate about the future so we are not slowing down anytime soon!
